Student Essay

| Mindfulness comes in many different shapes and forms. No matter if you are big or small, young or old you can and mostly have participated in physical, spiritual, or mental emotional mindfulness. Personally, in my life it took a while to let loose and calm down. My mother always tells me to take a break, breathe before moving onto something new. Physically and mentally school and life’s challenges have made me what the world would call a workaholic. Constantly my hands are attached to something like a sucker fish on a shark. Ever since I started working with fellow peers and Ms. Amy, Ms. Jasmine, and Ms. Christina, I’ve felt my train of thought and mental status change. At first I used to be a quiet girl from big city Philadelphia trying to find out truly who she was. How could she evolve into the best healthy her? In this leadership program many exercises and practices changed me. From the mental breathing with the ringing of the triangle to the preparation of wellness days. The program has allowed me to let the hummingbird inside the cage fly. It has found a colorful flower field. Every hue of every color waiting for her to land. To me mindfulness is something that should be a priority. Something that everyone should try, for your brain’s sake. Mindfulness is the healing of the mind in order to make a safe haven. –The sweetest hummingbird, Tamia |
