Succeeding With Self-Awareness

Tolulope A., Student, 17 years

My highest aspiration in life is simply to be happy and successful. In the society we live in success is usually measured by the amount of money or material things that someone has, but in reality it’s how happy you are, how good of a person you are, how comfortable you are in your own skin. I aspire to be a good student and a good athlete, but most importantly a good person. I’ve learned that to be able to accomplish those things one must learn to communicate with oneself. One must learn to use your thoughts, feelings and emotions in order to put yourself in a better position to be a better you. Mindfulness, or as I like to call it, Meditation Station is a great class or tool in general for awareness. When you are aware of yourself, your thoughts and the area around you, it makes it easier to create a comfortable space; not only for thoughts but your emotions as well. It’s not that the thoughts and/or feelings disappear, it’s that through the process of mindfulness you are more aware of them and thus they should be a bit easier to deal with. Because life is so complicated, it’s best to take things step by step, which is why I believe that Mindfulness classes would be great for someone, especially students, in helping them reach their dreams. There are so many methods of mindfulness meditation like bubble meditation that could be used based on the way one is feeling. Focus and patience are two very important things to consider when thinking about one’s future, and in my opinion mindfulness meditation is really good at addressing those factors.
